How it works
The calculator turns your pay into a yearly figure, then divides it back out into every other period.
Yearly = hourly × hours a week × paid weeks
Salaried pay periods are fixed: 26 paychecks a year if you're paid every two weeks, 24 if you're paid twice a month, 12 if monthly. Hourly, daily and weekly pay depend on how many weeks you're actually paid for.
Worked example
$25 an hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $52,000 a year, or $4,333 a month and $2,000 every two weeks.
Take four unpaid weeks off and the same hourly rate comes to $25 × 40 × 48 = $48,000.
Quick rules of thumb
- Hourly to yearly: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. $30 an hour is roughly $60,000 a year (exactly $62,400 at 2,080 hours).
- Yearly to hourly: halve the salary and drop three zeros. $80,000 a year is roughly $40 an hour (exactly $38.46).
- A full-time year is 2,080 hours: 40 hours × 52 weeks. The federal government uses 2,087 to average in leap years.
